The other day I hung out the laundry about 4:00 and decided to leave it out overnight. So morning comes and I go to bring it in. Wait a minute -- that's a space on the line. Something is missing.
Picture it -- the clothesline runs from the house to very high up on a tree which is right next to the church driveway beside our house. The driveway is about 3 feet above the grade of our garden and is a shortcut to the parking lot and the street at the back.
I go down to check whether the missing garment -- whatever it was, oh yeah, a nightgown -- has fallen onto the grass. Nope, but look - a bush has been flattened. And here are the clothespins. And here are somebody's sunglasses. Somebody who launched themselves off the retaining wall from the church driveway, grabbed hold of the garment and, like Tarzan swinging through the jungle, swung out into our garden and landed in the bush, clutching my clothing. Hmmmmmm.
This is moderately disturbing, but I just think, "Feh, damn drunk teenagers."
A little later I go out the front door, and there, on the porch -- NEATLY FOLDED! -- is my nightgown. Neatly folded, mind you!
I am so encouraged to realize that Uxbridge's drunken teenagers have consciences.
Edited to add that I know this isn't a random HORSEY thought, but I thought you'd like the story.

How extremely bizarre! I think it would make a stellar short story if you used a bit of imagination on what happened to said nightgown from when it was taken off the line to when it was returned LOL

The question is...was someone else actually wearing it? And did they take pictures? Was it yours or your mom's?
Will you be able to wear it again?
hahahahahaha

Ooooh! Imagine if pictures of some teenage guy in my nightgown (Yes, it was mine.) start appearing in strange places all over town. It's kind of like those stories of stolen garden gnomes who travel the world and send pictures home, isn't it?
I love it -- skateboarding down the Brock Street hill at midnight while wearing a flowered nightie over your cutoffs!

Just too funny !
Although the least they could have done was iron it ![]()

Ewe.
Wonder what they were doing with your little nightie while they had it in their possession. ![]()
Reminds me of when a friend of mine had her house up for sale....after the Open House, she discovered that all of her fancy lingerie were missing! And, never to be returned. ![]()

Very cute story. ! I agree, that the 'kids' of Uxbridge are pretty awesome. I am 'farm' raised and well 'over' 18. (I currently live in Toronto and HATE it, but will have to stay there for just a couple more years. )
I have had a display at the Everything Equine for the past 2 years and love my day in Uxbridge. What a breath of fresh air - literally and figuratively.
I cannot get over the unbelievable courtesy that you get when you roll into Tim Hortons at 5:30 am for your coffee - g'morning ma'am, what MAY I get for you,(smiling all the while), would you like your biscuit heated with a little butter ? Thank you very much ma'am, have a great day..... what is with that? The kid were all under 20, what is with the manners ? How do I respond to that ? I am used to 'disturbing' the counter help by asking for a double double coffee, (knowing that I will get a black coffee or a tea), I am used to an exasperated rolling eyes look if I ask for a biscuit - heated , I am used to the counter help speaking amongst themselves in something that is NOT English and giggling and waiting to finish thier conversation before finishing putting the muffin in the bag,(yes, I ordered a biscuit !!!), and I am not used to getting the right change back and 'have a great day' what is that supposed to mean ?
I could reach out an hug each and every one of those great young people in Uxbridge. I am sure there are a few 'scoundrels' out there too, but wow, I would take them in a heart beat, over what we have crawling around in most of Toronto.
Shame on them for stealing your nightgown, but bless thier hearts for thinking that doing that was being really 'bad' ! No one got hurt and you were shown that they have a conscience. They not only returned your property, it was FOLDED !!!!
I would LOVE to live in Uxbridge !
